The Institute of Ceramic Studies provides ‘a creation ground’ for those pursuing a pottery-making career, and for professional ceramic artists with wealth of knowledge and achievement. Why not take this opportunity to make another leap forward, through exchanges with fellow ceramists and excellent artists, in a liberal and creative environment? From 1992 to 2017, we have hosted over 1200 artists from 52 countries around the world.
The apllication rule of the studio artists for the 2019 fiscal year is as below.
※We have finished our recruitment of the Studio Artists for the 2019 fiscal year
(April 2019~March 2020).
1. Number of the Studio Artists
Total 30 persons
2. Qualifications
Artists who are over 20 years old
3. Staying Period
April 2nd, 2019 ~ March 31st, 2020
＊Artists who can stay over 1 month to 1 year
The office and dormitories are closed for approximately one week around
the New Year holiday December 29th – January 4th.
4. Deadline of the Application
Application period : September 1st～October 31st, 2018 in Japan time
Notification of the Result : Before December 28th, 2018
＊In case there is a room after the first selection, We will take the applicants any time
after December 28th.

6. Selection
Make the selection by the studio artist selection committee of The Shigaraki Ceramic
Cultural Park.
7. Expenses
Studio Rental : 34,200 yen / one month
Domitory : 18,000 yen / one month
Bedding : 3,720 yen / one month
･Residents are responsible for material costs, firing costs, travel expenses, and other living
expenses.
･Expenses will be charged separately when using the air conditioner equipped in the room.
･The cost of packing and shipping the produced work is paid by residents.
8. The others
・You can hold an exhibition at The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park or the exhibition space
in Shigaraki during your stay.
・We may ask you to slide lectures and workshops for the general public.
・Depending on your work we may ask you to donate to The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park.
In that case, for the selection of the work, it will be considered by artists and our staff.
1. Apply
Confirmation e-mail is automatically sent to you, after accepting the application.
You receive it, it finishes to apply.

2. Selection
Make the selection by the studio artist selection committee of The Shigaraki Ceramic
Cultural Park.
3. Notification of Result
We will send a notification of the selection results to artists in writing and e-mail, before
December 28th, 2018.
4. Schedule adjustment
As a result of the selection, artists who has been approved as a studio artist can make
schedule adjustments with staffs by calling or e-mail.
By studios and accommodation situation, you may necessarily not afford a stay at
the stay period of the first choice.
5. Certificate issued
As soon as the schedule adjustment, it will be issued documents “Approval letter”
to artists .
6. Stay start
Artists start to stay by their adjusted schedule.
7. Application for Visa
If you wish to stay for more than 90 days or if your nationality is not a Japanese visa exemption country, you need to obtain a cultural activity visa by national rules.
We will inform you about detail information on visa application after being approved as a studio artist.
This also applies when you are staying for more than 90 days to travel in Japan before and after your stay at the facility.
1. We will make the selection on the basis of the material that you have submited. Please do
as much as possible in detail fill.
2. Please fill certainly to the third hope.
3. If you think to apply from outside the web, please contact to the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural
Park.

1. Face photo, works images, the capacity of all of the image data, please below 1.5MB.
2. Face photo, work images, PDF files, the file names of all of the data is alphanumeric
characters and the hyphen (-), underscore Bar (_), period (.), Please only.
3. There are successive errors due to apply from mobile phones and tablet PC. Since we have
taken countermeasures now, we ask that you apply from the personal computer until we solve
the problem.
